Skilled workers from the Pasadena Job Center are available for hire to help you clean up your properties, inside and out. But until then, they’ve donned their bright orange “Volunteer” T-shirts and hit the road in the Historic Highlands neighborhood to make the community sparkle again.

We stopped and talked to the “Brigada de Servicio” members as they worked their way down Catalina Avenue below Washington Boulevard. The crew boss (you’ll recognize him by the clipboard) said the bilingual English / Spanish-speaking teams are glad to be helping the community.

While their logo declares, “Only the Village Can Save the Village,” these workers come from all parts of Southern California, including the towns “muy lejos de aquí” of Compton, Pomona, Glendale and beyond.

These volunteers are doing the dusty, sooty work of collecting leaves, branches, palm fronds, and everything else that the powerful Santa Ana winds blew into neighborhoods and down streets.

While their volunteer work can only be utilized on the public right of way and streets, these trained workers are available for hire to do the other important work of setting your house to rights, including general labor, painting, construction, demolition, gardening, repairs, moving and cleaning.
