Eaton Fire Results in Massive Evacuation, Numerous Structures Aflame

A Santa Ana wind-whipped fire originating near the Midwick Drive entrance to Eaton Canyon caused a massive evacuation of Pasadena and Altadena-area residents overnight. The Eaton Fire, ranging from Sierra Made to La Canada-Flintridge, reportedly set at least 146 structures aflame.

As of 8:00 am Wednesday, emergency authorities reported two fatalities related to the fire.

Widespread power outages occurred throughout the area Tuesday night, and power remains off in many areas as of Wednesday morning.

Televised news reports from the Northeast Pasadena neighborhood surrounding the former St. Luke Hospital site showed numerous structure fires, while the fate of the abandoned hospital building is undetermined at this hour.

Reports on social media also indicate there was fire damage on the campus of Pasadena High School.

An evacuation center has been established at the Pasadena Convention Center on Green Street in Pasadena.

Local News Pasadena staff and newsroom in East Pasadena were evacuated Tuesday night. We will post additional information as available.
