Cynthia Valenzuela Dixon, a Pasadena resident, was confirmed by the Senate yesterday as a federal District Judge in the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
Dixon’s confirmation was part of a late November compromise to approve several of President Joe Biden’s judicial nominees.
As part of the compromise, Senate Democrats agreed not to hold votes on four of Biden’s appellate court nominees while Republicans agreed to allow votes on seven judicial nominees for the federal district courts.
Dixon was confirmed by the Senate on December 10th by a vote of 49-47.
Dixon has served as a Hearing Judge of the State Bar Court of California since her appointment by the California Supreme Court in 2016, presiding over attorney disciplinary and regulatory cases. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Arizona in 1991 and her Juris Doctor degree from the UCLA School of Law in 1995.
According to the Court’s Web site, Dixon will preside over matters in Los Angeles in the Court’s Western Division.
