As if Monday’s 4.4 magnitude earthquake wasn’t exciting enough, “Clear the Shelters” is a nationwide campaign taking place between now and September 10. For the tenth consecutive year, participating shelters are offering to waive the usual adoption fees in an attempt to relieve the overcrowded conditions in our nation’s animal care facilities. Not every shelter participates, so be sure to inquire as you make your decision.

This column is devoted to finding homes for pets, so occasionally, we take a deep breath and try to help a lost pet find its way back home.

Molly is a medium-sized tawny female canine who lost her way in mid-June in the vicinity of the 210 Freeway Park and Ride. Molly is friendly and was wearing two collars and no tags.

If you see Molly, please phone owner Elizabeth at 626-742-5137 or email [email protected].

Tiny scruffy tan terrier on plush blanket
Little Della needs a champion. Photo: crustycrewrescue

Meet Della

Della is a small, sensitive, senior female canine who needs immediate help. Her elderly owner had to leave the state to live with family and was unable to bring her animals. No judgment.

She is potty-trained and loves to snuggle in laps. Loves to be held. Sandy-cinnamon colored, fluffy coat, perhaps “Morkie” (Maltese/Yorkshire Terrier), Norwich Terrier mix, or Havanese/long-haired Chihuahua blend.

Needs an adopter or foster who can take her to vet appointments in the Rancho Cucamonga area.

Email [email protected] if you can help.

Porchah and Buddy are ready to wing west to their new home. Photo: @bluegirls_harlow_luna

Meet Porchah and Buddy

Animal House generally sticks close to home since our own San Gabriel Valley is busting at the seams with unhoused pets. But this one from the Motor D somehow found its way to us, so please note that, in order to save these dogs, the rescues listed below will coordinate transport from Detroit.

The sad story unfolds thusly: these dogs served in the Dog Aide’s outreach program, where they were everyone’s favorite. The owner has a terminal illness and can no longer walk, and her (literal) dying wish is that her dogs go to a loving home before she dies.

  • Porchah is a 12-year-old black and white Pit, spayed, current on all vaccines except lepto.
  • Buddy is a 10-year-old black male Pit, neutered, current on all vaccines except lepto.
  • Both dogs are well-socialized and good with other dogs, cats, and kids.

They should ideally be kept together but could be separated if absolutely necessary.

Reach out to @withregram, @bluegirls_harlow_luna.

Thanks to our bud Darlene P. for these next two posts!

Meet Momma Rhaenys and Gingersnaps

Ain’t no love like some ginger love, and this marmalade mama has brought five darling dumplings into the world. Four of the kittens are gingers, and three of the gingers are girls, which is unusual.

In addition to the four ginger-babies, she’s mother to a baby brown tabby as well. Momma Rhaenys, named for House of the Dragon, has beautiful, unique “marbled” markings, and she will be spayed after the babies (Rhaenyra, Rhaena, Baela, Jacaerys, Criston) are finished nursing in October.

For an intro, please call or text human foster mom Gabbi at 626-808-8557.

Thanks to our friend Lucy G for this next post!

Lucky needs a break. Photo: Ronnie G

Meet the guy we’ll call Lucky Boy

We don’t know if he’s had an actual name in the past. But we consider him “lucky” because intrepid rescuer Ronnie Krokdal spotted him trying to find shade under a truck in Watts in triple-digit heat.

Last time we checked, the dog was sleeping in the back of Ronnie’s car because she had no place to put him. At least he’s safe, out of the sun, getting food, water, love. Ronnie says, “I need a safe yard to keep this big, sweet boy. I couldn’t leave him. He is not neutered, but will be soon, is super-sweet and friendly, and showed no aggression toward another unfixed male dog that he met.”

Even if you can only take Lucky Boy for a week or two, doing so will enable Ronnie to more easily network him into a permanent situation.

If you can help, call Ronnie at 310-804-1555.

Meet #A1607109 Marley

Marley may be gone by the time you read this. If so, very sorry. But if so, please look a bit further and help another animal. As we went to press, Marley was surrendered by his human and went “Code Red” because of his behavior, as in growling, and pulling on a leash. Marley needs a rescue, foster or adopter, pronto.
