As global warming brings to Pasadena more and more intense heat waves, tied to the weather phenomenon known as a “heat dome,” residents, human or not, find themselves changing their daily routines. Here, our Poet Laureate Robert Savino Oventile meditates on the situation.
Heat Dome
Beneath the dome,
Near the canyon,
Hung on a yellow
Stucco wall,
A fountain gives
Succor to honeybees.
A goldfinch
Approaches
The fountain
But retreats,
The buzzing
Presence there
Being for the bird
Something new
Under the sun.
