Snoopy of Charles Shulz’ beloved Peanuts cartoon strip was born at the Daisy Hill Puppy Farm, which sounds nice. But the fact is that most breeding facilities are nightmares. Puppy and kitten mills are still legal in much of the country, and many animal advocates state that poor conditions in those facilities lead to, well, sick puppies. And we mean that literally.
One solution is to enact a retail pet sale ordinance, which will restrict the retail sale of inhumanely bred dogs, cats and rabbits. Doing this may move many retailers to rescue animals from overcrowded public animal shelters.
Yes, there are many hoops to jump through, but at this writing, more than 440 cities, counties and states in the USA have already passed laws to stop the retail sale of pets sourced from commercial breeding facilities. If you have what it takes to lead the charge in your community, visit action.bestfriends.org to get started.
Thanks to our friend Darlene P. for this sweet duo!
Meet INDY & EARL, Bonded Bros.
Here’s what lifellineforpets.org has to say: “These two cuties are only nine months old and have been in foster care since they were born! Please adopt them together.
INDY is a handsome, sleek, shorthair male tuxedo. His coat is so soft and silk smooth! He’s very playful and energetic, and adorable zooms around the room. He jumps and hops in the air like a cute little bunny! Indy loves toys that he can move and pick up with his paws. His foster family loves to see him real up on his hind legs as he is trying the catch something in the air. When it’s time to sleep, he cuddles up with you and purrs. He would make anyone a fun and adorable pet.
EARL is a white shorthair with gray patches. He’s fun, playful and active. He loves to zoom around, and also loves toys he can pick up with his paws. He loves to wrap himself around kicker toys— a very entertaining sight to see! Earl is very affectionate, will greet you with purrs galore, climb onto your chest, hang out on your shoulder, and purr in your ear. What a love!
They are healthy and ready to perk up your life! See more and apply at https://www.lifelineforpets.org/indy–earl.html”
Maybe it’s the last flickers of that post-Oscars afterparty glow, but we have more tuxedo love to share!
Meet the Tuxedo Trio
Thanks to our friend Renata for bringing these beauties to our attention.
Trigger alert: what she had to tell us is not pretty. At just a few weeks old, these three tux’s — one boy, two girls, black DSH with white blaze, paws — were found in a rough part of town where, for fun, kids toss food into the street and bet on which cats from the stray colony will dash into the path of oncoming cars and not get squished. Sorry, it’s true.
AND! Adults in the area routinely set out antifreeze for the cat colony to drink, as a brutal method of population control. Ethylene glycol (antifreeze) is an odorless, sweet-tasting chemical, and even 1/2 tablespoon of the stuff can kill a cat within 24 hours, since the chemical causes kidney failure.
Trapper and cat guardian named Ron T. rescued these kittens when they were a few weeks old. They are now safe with a foster, and they have been neutered/spayed, vaccinated, and most importantly have been socialized and shown love. Their foster describes them this way: “Friendly, adventurous, adorable, sweet! To say these little angels are friendly is a gross understatement. Ideally we would like two of them to go together, but we are open to splitting them up for the right situation.”
