If you live in California or were visiting and purchased retail gasoline in any of ten Southern California counties in 2015, you may be eligible for a payment. This is from a settlement fund negotiated by the Attorney General of California and several corporate defendants accused of manipulating gasoline price indices, causing inflated retail gas prices.
Under the settlement, the defendants will pay a total of $50 million into two settlement funds to resolve the allegations. Of this total, $37,500,000 will be distributed to consumers as compensation for violations of California’s antitrust laws.
One fund, named California v. Vitol, is for individual consumers who live in California and purchased gas between February 20, 2015 and November 10, 2015. Another fund, named the California Spot Market Antitrust Litigation, is for those who purchased gasoline on behalf of a business, or if consumers who purchased gas lived outside of California, from February 18, 2015 through May 31, 2017.
The Southern California counties covered by these funds are: Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Kern, Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Imperial.
To apply for payments from either fund, visit www.calgaslitigation.com and submit a claim form by the filing deadline of January 8th, 2025. Details about the case and a FAQ are available at the Web site.
