In an announcement by the Los Angeles Press Club, Local News Pasadena has received 11 nominations for Southern California Journalism Awards recognizing work published during 2024. Nominations for Local News Pasadena include the prestigious Online News Organization of the Year and Online Journalist of the Year categories.
In addition, the Pasadena-based nonprofit newsroom received two nominations for medical and health reporting, and individual nominations for local political and government reporting, editorials, culture news, lifestyle features, personality profiles, national political commentary and local political commentary.
According to the Los Angeles Press Club, judges pored over more than 2,500 entries to determine the finalists, breaking last year’s record for submissions. To maintain impartiality, awards judging is performed by professional journalism organizations and press clubs from outside Southern California.
“This year’s Southern California Journalism Awards finalists represent the news values of accuracy, trustworthiness, independence, and fairness as well as reflecting how we have contributed additional value and impact to our community and its members,” said publisher Sheryl Turner.
“These nominations inspire us to know local media can do more by helping people make informed decisions, building connections between the past and present, enriching conversations through complexity or nuance, and bridging individual differences,” said Turner.
