Glad we didn’t miss these encouraging local developments that occurred over the weekend:
ICE / HSI agents rooming at the AC Hotel and Hotel Dena in Pasadena were asked to leave by hotel management. This followed a noisy street protest against their presence by local residents. Pasadena City Councilmember Rick Cole helped facilitate the hotel’s heave-ho.
The City of Glendale terminated its detainee holding contract with ICE. Per the city’s press release, “The City of Glendale has made the decision to formally terminate its agreement with U.S. Homeland Security and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to house federal immigration detainees at the Glendale Police Department facility.” Reason? “The Glendale Police Department is trusted and supported by the residents and businesses, and in turn, our officers work every day to protect and serve with professionalism and care. At this time, it is in our best interest to not allow that trust to be undermined.”
There were no known ICE enforcement actions in Pasadena, South Pasadena, Sierra Madre, Altadena or anywhere else in the San Gabriel Valley on Saturday or Sunday. Can we go a full week without ICE, HSI or the National Guard rolling through town? Let’s find out.
